GENERAL INFORMATION
As we begin second grade, we have been working with goals. We have created personal goals, group goals, and class goals. In line with this, I have created some classroom community goals. These goals include the students, parents, and teacher. I am excited to work together to accomplish these goals and make our second grade community the best it can be.
READING GOALS
My goal is that the children learn to love reading and the experiences that come along with it. We will work throughout the year to create enriching reading experiences that foster growth and love of reading. I will do this by having story time, read to self, read to a buddy, and mystery reader. Students will accomplish this goals by having a reading bingo sheet. Students will have the month to complete their reading bingo. This should make students reading time at home fun and allow them a chance to explore new books and genres. Parents can help achieve this goal by reading with the child, signing the reading bingo sheet, and encouraging them through the reading process. Let them be silly and creative with the ways that they choose to read!HOMEWORK GOALS This year students will receive their homework for the week on Monday. This will be sent home in their homework folder and should be returned that Friday. We encourage students to do a little each night. My goal is to have homework be a reinforcement of what the students already know. The children should set a goal to complete all homework and turn it in on time! Parents can help achieve this goal by encouraging students through the homework process, helping with more challenging homework, and reaching out to me if the homework seems to be to difficult. Please always reach out to me if your child is having trouble with the homework. We want homework to beneficial!
HEALTH GOALS
Our goal is to make healthy choices this year. Please keep this in mind as you bring in those delicious snacks. Also, please keep in mind that we eat snack in the classroom. The snack should be something the child can open, is not messy, and does not require utensils. Our snack goal is to become more independent. We are working on opening, cleaning up and being responsible for our snacks. Birthday snacks this year will be on the Friday of your child's birthday. Please bring in a healthy option along with your snack.
COMMUNICATION GOALS
I am excited to work with you and your child throughout second grade! Please always let me know if your child will not be attending school. You can send me a quick email or note letting me know that your child will not be here. Please also let me know if your child is going home with someone else. I cannot let a child go home with a friend without permission! If the change is last minute, please call the office. I do not always have time to check my email during the day. This is the best way to stay safe!
BEHAVIOR GOALS
This year we have created our rules and goals as a class. The children worked really hard to create rules that were fair, easy to follow, and would make our class a place to learn and grow. Their goal is to follow these rules. My goal is to help them follow these rules by having the students be rewarded with "monster money". Students will receive this when they are showing their best! At the end of the week, students will be able to purchase items with their own money! You can help by encouraging your child through this process.
ACHIEVEMENT GOALS
Students goal this year is to turn in their best work. We have been working as a class to create quality work. My goal is to encourage students to reach their potential and always put their best effort into their work. To communicate this with you, we will follow the EMD grading system. For this E stands for Exceeding. This means that your child exceeded the required skill for that assignment. M stands for mastered. This means that your child mastered the skill and is ready to move on. D stands for developing. This means that your child is still developing this skill, and we will continue to work on it. As parents, you can encourage the students to produce their best work.
